Xfmedia is a lightweight media player based on the xine engine. The GTK+ GUI focuses on playing and managing audio files, but, being based on xine, supports video as well. There will also be a command-line tool, xfplay, that can be used to play audio from a terminal (also video, if X or an ASCII-art library is available). Xfmedia is written and maintained by Brian Tarricone (<bjt23@cornell.edu>).
