 Changing Volume Parameters 

Use

Use the command param_addvolume described here only for Creating a New Database Instance, when creating a first mirror volume for a database instance, or in consultation with Support.

Inconsistencies in the volume settings can lead to damage to the database instance.

Extend an existing database instance using the command db_addvolume (Adding a Volume).

Use db_addvolume to create mirror volumes only if the database instance is already mirrored; that is, if mirror volumes already exist.

Use this command to enter the volume parameters in the parameter file of the database instance. The new parameter value is registered by the system, and is transferred to the parameter file as the valid value at the next restart of the database instance.

You change volume parameters in two steps:

...

       1.      Change the entries for the parameters in the parameter file

       2.      Transfer the corresponding information to the database kernel with an administrative command (See: Executing a Database Command)

If this command fails, you must also remove the entries in the parameter file of the database instance.

No check is made of whether there is sufficient disk capacity available to add the volume.

If you create a mirror volumes with this command, you must then also set the general database parameter LOG_MIRRORED to the value YES.

Volumes of type archive cannot be extended later. Therefore, select the maximum value allowed by the storage system when you specify the size of such volumes.

You have the server authorization ParamFull.

param_addvolume <vol_no> <vol_mode> <vol_name> <vol_type> <vol_size>

Number of the volume

<vol_mode>

Mode of the volume

<vol_name>

Name of volume/file of the volume

<vol_type>

Type of volume

<vol_size>

Size of the volume in pages

<vol_mode>

DATA

Data volume; the number of the data volume is assigned by the system as a four-digit number with leading zeros when creating the volume

LOG

Log volume; the number of the log volume is assigned by the system as a three-digit number with leading zeros when creating the volume

MLOG

Mirrored log volume
