You set up a hot standby system to improve the availability of your database system. You require a suitable memory management system and a cluster solution. For information about setting up a memory management system and cluster configuration, see the manufacturer documentation.
· Master and standby components use the same hardware platforms (memory space, type and number of processors).
· All the data paths and files (run directory, volumes, trace files, and so on) used in the configuration are the same in the master and standby components.
· The same version of the database software is installed on all the servers.
· All the servers are switched on.
· The X Server is running on all the servers.
· The user setting up the hot standby system has administration rights on all the servers.

5. Defining an Additional Standby Component.
While a new standby component is being set up, savepoints must not be written.
6. Transferring the Standby Component to the Operational State STANDBY.
The hot standby system is set up. To add additional standby components, repeat the procedure from step 5.
To change database parameters, use the usual commands to address the master component of the hot standby system. The changes are transferred automatically to all the standby components.
