The database system administrator (SYSDBA user) is the first database user. You create this user when you create the database instance. The SYSDBA user can then use the query tools to define other database users or user groups with the SQL statements for user authorization. This user can define data and database procedures and grant other database users privileges for these database objects.
The SYSDBA user also has the following properties:
· The SYSDBA user is the owner of some system tables. When system tables are loaded, the load tool logs on to the database instance as the SYSDBA user.
· The SYSDBA user is the only database user who also has DBM operator rights, more specifically all authorizations of the first Database Manager operator.
The data of this user is saved in both the Database Manager and the database.
The Database Manager stores the name and password of the database system administrator in uppercase characters. They can have a maximum of 18 characters (nine characters in UNICODE). Special characters are not permitted.
Do not enter the character string SYSDBA as a user name, since this is a reserved SQL key word.
After you have started the database instance in the operational state ONLINE, you can change the password of the SYSDBA user with the ALTER PASSWORD statement. You can also use the Database Manager GUI to change the password (Changing a User Password).
