XUSER is a database tool that you use to define XUSER entries for any users. You then save these entries under a key name (user_key). You can define XUSER entries for both database users and DBM operators.
XUSER entries make it faster for database tools, such as the Database Manager CLI and the C/C++ Precompiler, to connect to the database instance. SAP systems also support the use of the XUSER tool.
Other database tools, such as the Loader and the Database Manager GUI, and applications that use the ODBC interface (such as SQL Studio) cannot access XUSER data.
XUSER entries consist of a user name and user password, together with additional options. This information and the options are saved separately for each operating system user. The allocation of rights in the file system guarantees that these entries can only be used and modified by the operating system user who created them.
You can use the XUSER program to store user data for various tasks and use this data for logons. An operating system user can define up to 32 user keys. You can manage individual user data in this way if, for example, more than one database user is using the same computer and each user is working under a different user name.
XUSER is not a tool for managing database users or DBM operators. It only manages the XUSER entries for these users in the XUSER program. You can access the database instance with a database user saved under an XUSER entry only if this user has been created for this database instance with an SQL statement. In the same way, you can manage a database instance with a DBM operator saved under an XUSER entry only if you defined this operator when you created the database instance.
