 Timeout Value

The timeout value defines the maximum period of inactivity during a database session. The inactivity period is the time interval between the completion of an SQL statement and the next SQL statement. If the specified timeout value is exceeded, the database session is ended implicitly with a ROLLBACK (see also the ROLLBACK WORK RELEASE statement).

Timeout values are specified in seconds.

Setting the Timeout Value

The timeout value is set as follows:

·        For all users, the timeout value is predefined in the database instance in the special database parameter SESSION_TIMEOUT.

·        You can use a CREATE USER statement or an ALTER USER statement to define a user-specific timeout value for an individual user.

You can use a CREATE USERGROUP statement or an ALTER USERGROUP statement to define a user-specific timeout value for a group of users.

·        You have the option of specifying a lower timeout value when you connect to a database instance.

The timeout value for the current database session is always the lowest value of any values specified using the procedures above.
