 Architecture of the Database Manager

The Database Manager has a client/server architecture. The DBM Server is responsible for the functions, and the user uses the client to access the tool.

The Database Manager clients can be used for remote connections. This means that the client and the DBM Server can be installed on different computers. However, the DBM Server must always be installed on the same computer as the database instance that you want to access with the Database Manager.

At the request of the client (Database Manager GUI or Database Manager CLI), the X Server starts the DBM server. After a connection has been successfully created, an additional thread or an additional child process is started in the X server process to transport the data packets over the network.
