A database together with all information required to run it is known as a database instance. A database instance consists of a database name, volumes, all files in the run directory, and a collection of metadata (including configuration files, database parameters, and paths to the volumes).
To start a database instance, the kernel of the database system is started by specifying the database name. While the database instance is running, some parts of it are located in the cache.
When you create a new database instance, you can choose between different database instance types, depending on your requirements.
