High availability means that an IT system is always operational.
A database system can fail as a result of physical errors, such as a defect with the hard drive, power failure, CPU failure, or problems with the main memory. It can also fail because of logical errors, such as the deletion of required software or data or the import of unsuitable data.
There are precautions that you can take on both a hardware level and a logical level to increase the availability of a database system.
High availability strategies exceed classic precautionary measures and are usually only necessary for large or particularly critical systems. The following high availability strategies can be used with the database system:
· Hot standby with clustering
· Creating a homogeneous system copy
The method most suitable for your system depends on your specific system requirements.
