 Connecting to a Database Instance

Users must make the following entries when connection to a database instance:

database_name

The name of the database instance you want to work on

database_server

Name of the computer on which the database instance is installed

user_name

User name

password

Password of the user

Additionally, you can specify other options, depending on the application or database tool. These options can include the SQL mode or the timeout value.

Specifying User Data

When you work with the database tools or other application programs, you have the following options for specifying user data:

·        Specify user data on the logon screen of the Database Manager GUI or SQL Studio

Remember the rules for lowercase and uppercase letters when you open a database session in the SQL Studio.

·        Specify user data in call options when you call the database tool or application program

·        Specify user data with XUSER

Any missing or incorrect user data causes the program to terminate with an appropriate error message.

When you call the C/C++ Precompiler and application programs that were generated using the programming interface of the database, you can also specify user data directly in the program itself. For this reason, the program contains a special modified rule for the specification of user data. For more information, see the C/C++ Precompiler User Manual under Precompiler Options and Connecting to a Database Instance.
