 Concepts

The Loader uses the concepts of the database instance and also its own concepts.

Database Concepts

For all the concepts of the database, see the section Terms and Concepts in the Reference Handbook. In particular, the Loader uses the following concepts:

·        Database Catalog

·        Application Data

·        System Tables

Loader Concepts

·        Transformation

·        System Tables

The Loader provides you with functions for unloading, loading, and formatting (transforming) data between different data sources and data targets using different data streams.

The range of language of the Loader allows transformation of the data for all users of a database, a user, a table of a user, or a set of qualified columns of a table or multiple tables (Commands for Unloading and Loading).

Media and database instances are supported as physical data sources and physical data targets. You can also use external backup tools to unload or load all your application data or the entire database catalog (see Unloading with External Backup Tools and Loading with External Backup Tools).

The Loader uses metadata, which can be in different formats, for the logical description of data and its transformation.

When the system tables are filled, this can, among other things, be used for restarting a transformation.
