Before you can manage database instances using the Database Manager GUI program, a connection must be set up between the database instance to be managed and your DBM Server.
You can set up the connection to the DBM Server for one, more than one, or all database instances displayed in the list, depending on the performance of your system. Similarly, you can terminate the connection between individual database instances and your DBM Server to reduce the load on your system.
The required database instance must be included in the list of the database instances. To do this, proceed as described in Managing the List of Database Instances.
The database instance state is Not connected.
1. Select the database instance in the list of database instances.
2. Choose Instance ® Connect.
3. Enter the name and password of the Database Manager operator, if necessary. You can save this information.
The Database Manager can now determine the current operational state of the selected database instance.
1. Select the database instance in the list of database instances.
2. Choose Instance ® Disconnect.
The state of this database instance is now Not connected.
The connection to the DBM Server has been terminated. The Database Manager now no longer determines the current operational state of the database instance.
