 Directory Structure

The security and performance of the database system are influenced strongly by the way in which the database directories are distributed across the hard disks. The optimum directory structure depends on the particular hardware configuration.

You must meet the following requirements:

·        There must be enough free space to allow the database to expand.

·        The data must be stored securely.

·        The hardware must meet the performance requirements.

If you are designing the directory structure for a production system, read the Tips for Setting Up the Database Instance. The database directories are defined when the database software is installed (see the Installation Manual). You can either accept the system default or define a different path.

You do not have a free choice of directories for an RPM-based installation on Linux; instead, the directories are specified by the values /var/opt/sdb/data, /opt/sdb/programs, and /opt/sdb/7500.

If you later want to change a directory path or directory name, check all dependencies on other directories and contact the support team for help, if necessary.

To display the paths of the most important database directories, use the Database Manager CLI.
