User data for logging on to a database instance and, in some cases, other data can be specified as options when calling the database tools, the C/C++ Precompiler, or the application programs. Some call options must be specified to start the tools.
Note that the user concept distinguishes between Database Manager operators and database users, and that you need the appropriate authorizations to work with a specific tool.
The Database Manager GUI and the SQL Studio also start if no options are specified, or if the options are incorrect or incomplete. In the logon screen, enter the user data required to log on to the database instance.

You need to connect to the database instance to use all the Database Manager CLI functions. To do this, enter the option -d <database_name> , if the database instance is on the local computer, and enter the option -n <database_server> as well if the database instance is on a remote computer. You can specify other information, such as a user name and password, as options (for example, -u).
The Database Manager CLI also supports the usage of XUSER.
If you do not specify the options required to log on to the database instance, or specify only some of them, or the details are incorrect, the Database Manager CLI is still started, and a connection to the DBM server is created, however, you are not logged on to the database instance. In this case, the Database Manager CLI can only be used to call DBM commands that are independent of the database (such as help, dbm_version, and so on).

To call the Loader CLI, you must specify the name of the database instance –d <database_name>. If you want to work in the background rather than interactively, you must use the option –b <command_file> to specify the command file. Further user data (such as user name and password) can be specified as options (for example -u) or, if required, as commands (for example, USE USER).
If the required options are not specified, or specified incorrectly, then the Loader is not started. Instead, a list of all possible options is displayed.
