You install or update a chosen installation profile or database software component. Use the following procedure for updates only if no database instances refer to the installation path of the software that you want to update.
If database instances refer to the installation path of the software, you must upgrade the database instances together with the software (see Upgrading Database Instances and Their Software). Otherwise, you risk making the database instances incompatible with the database software, and you may not be able to restart them.
The system logs the installation process.
