This documentation describes the installation and uninstallation of all MaxDB software with Version 7.5x; in the following, these processes are called a standard installation and standard uninstallation.
This Database Software Installation Guide is an extract from the Installation Manual , and only describes some of the possible installation procedures. It is only intended for those users who want to perform a complete installation or complete uninstallation of the MaxDB database software outside an SAP system.
You also have the option of installing or uninstalling individual database software components. When you do this you must take into account the dependencies between the components, and how they might affect the way your software installation works.
You also have the option of updating database software installations with or without database instances.
You can also use the Red Hat Package Manager to install the software on Linux.

This guide does not apply for installing and uninstalling the MaxDB database software in SAP systems.
The installation or uninstallation of the database software required for SAP systems is described in SAP-specific installation guides. SAP customers can find these guides on the SAP Service Marketplace at http://service.sap.com. If you want to upgrade database instances, including database software, in SAP systems, use the Installation Manual.
You use the SDBINST program for installing the SAP DB software and the SDBUNINST program for uninstalling the MaxDB software. These programs are included in the database software package.
