Functions of the Database Manager CLI

The Database Manager CLI is an easy-to-use tool that can manage any number of local or remote database instances. These can be managed from the command line. The program is suitable for both interactive and background operation.

The Database Manager CLI is the client program of the Database Manager, which enables you to connect to the DBM Server and exchange data with it. It can only be called by a Database Manager operator (DBM operator).

To be able to administer a database instance, a DBM operator logs on to the Database Manager with a user name and password, and registers this database instance in the Database Manager. He or she uses DBM commands and Options, to log on to the database instance and to send requests to the Database Manager. To be able to execute DBM commands, the DBM operator must have the necessary operator authorization. The Database Manager transfers the replies to the commands and the specified options. As well as information on the state of the database instance, the reply contains formatted data (Reply Format).

Calling up the Database Manager CLI is equivalent to opening a session. Once the entered commands have been processed, the session with the Database Manager is closed.
