You can back up data interactively with the Backup Wizard, which also supports automatic tape loaders.
Alternatively, you can back up data with an external backup tool (Backing Up with External Backup Tools).
If you want to use an automatic tape loader, choose the following settings when you create the backup media (see Creating a Single Backup Medium, Creating a Group of Parallel Backup Media or Changing Backup Media):
·
General
Choose the device type Tape.
·
Extended
Select Autoloader.
On the Microsoft Windows operating system, this defines the automatic loading
of tapes.
If you are using any other operating system, use the appropriate command for
loading tapes. Enter the operating system command in the field OS
Command.
After
you insert the tape cartridge in the autoloader, the first tape must be
selected manually.
When the end of this tape is reached, the autoloader will then take the next
tape available.
For a backup to be successful, you will need to ensure an adequate supply of tapes.
At the end of the backup, the tape device shows the number of tapes written. The tapes should be marked with the backup ID that was displayed and confirmed at the start of the backup.
Before a backup, you must check that none of the tapes is write-protected since this terminates the entire backup.
