 Creating a Single Backup Medium 

You can change backup media interactively with the Database Manager GUI or the Backup Wizard.

Prerequisites

You have made the connection between the database instance and the DBM Server.

Procedure

·        Database Manager GUI
Select the required database instance in the list of database instances.
Choose
Instance ® Backup ® Backup Medium.
Choose Actions® New Medium.

·        Backup Wizard
Choose New Medium in the window Media for Backup.

General

Choose General and enter the following information:

Name

Name of the backup medium
Follow the naming conventions for backup media.

Backup Type

Choose your preferred backup type:
Complete data backup

Incremental data backup
Log backup

Device Type

Select the type of backup medium:

File: If you back up the log area to a file, the Database Manager generates version files automatically.

Tape: You cannot make log backups to tape.

Pipe: Pipe
Always specify Pipe if you are using an external backup tool.

Location/Device

Specify the location to which you want to make the backups.

With files and pipes, we recommend specifying the absolute path to the backup medium.
UNIX: If you back up to a tape, you must communicate with the device driver correctly. Use a rewind tape for data backups.
Microsoft Windows: The system sets the device driver automatically.

Extended

Choose Extended and enter the following information:

Size

Size of the backup medium

Overwrite

Select Overwrite if you want to use the overwrite mode for the backup medium.

Blocksize

Select Blocksize if you want to make backups in blocks of up to eight pages

Autoloader

Select Autoloader to use a tape device with autoload facilities (Backups with Automatic Tape Loaders).

OS Command

When you back up to tape, you can specify operating system commands.
